History
Claimed in 1678 for France by the explorer La Salle, Saint Louis has always been a river city, and the development of trading along the Mississippi. Attacked by the British during the American Revolution while the American Civil War left it untouched, the city was a major trading point during both conflicts. In modern times, the influx of major corporations has helped instill its place as the largest and most influential metropolitan area in Missouri and a great place to visit.
